Hamlet being confronted by the ghost of his father
King Hamlet In Shakespeare's Hamlet
King Hamlet is the ghost in Shakespeare's play, Hamlet. King Hamlet, the King of Denmark, was murdered in his sleep by his brother, Claudius, who now assumes the role as King of Denmark after King Hamlet's death and marries his dead brother's wife. King Hamlet haunts the castle and his spirit reaches out to Prince Hamlet, telling the prince about the tale of his murder and how the prince must avenge his death. (6)
Shakespeare's Take on Ghosts
There is no evidence that William Shakespeare believed in ghosts such as the ones that he used in his plays. But, he did find them as very useful dramatic devices. (4)
